Beauty Kit Contents

  • Printed pattern pieces
  • Instruction sheets
  • 4 x FQ's of cotton quilting fabric
  • 1 x piece of Cream Towelling Fabric
  • 1.5m x 20mm wide elastic for headband and eye mask
  • 1m x 10mm Ribbon for drawstring bag
  • 1m x 6mm wide elastic for scrunchie
  • Safety pin
  • 2 Toggles
  • Gutermann Thread

Before you start sewing………

  • Cut around all paper pattern pieces carefully
  • Press all fabric to remove creases
  • We suggest leaving the scrunchie and face wipes till last as they can be made from the smaller bits of fabric after you have made the other things
  • Seams are 1cm
  • Do a few reverse stitches at the start and finish of each sewing step to secure your stitching (except zig zag neatening where its not really needed)
  • Please note that we have used thread which shows up on the photos but you may want to use a thread that matches and blends into the fabric.

Drawstring bag Instructions

Pattern pieces:

Drawstring Bag

Drawstring Cover

Use 2 different fabrics

Cut a 50cm piece of ribbon

Cutting out:

  • Fold both fabrics in half
  • Pin drawstring bag pattern to fabric and cut out – you will have two identical pieces
  • Pin drawstring cover pattern to second fabric placing end with arrows to fold of fabric so that when cut out you have one piece twice the length of the pattern piece
  • Remove pattern pieces from fabric

Sewing Instructions:

Place the two bag pieces right sides together

Sew together with a 1cm seam along one long edge

Neaten raw edges of the seam together with a zig zag stitch

Lay the bag out flat and press the seam to one side

Take the drawstring cover piece and fold 1.2cm on both short ends to wrong side of fabric and press

Stitch in place close to the raw edge

Press 1cm to wrong side along both long edges

Lay the bag flat with right side of fabric facing up

Place the prepared drawstring channel 6cm down from the top of the bag and 1.2cm in from each edge

Pin in place

Sew in place close to the folded long edges of the drawstring channel

Do not sew across short edges

Press 1cm to wrong side along the top edge of the bag (this is the edge closest to the drawstring channel)

Fold again by another 1cm and press in place

Fold bag right sides facing, matching long and short sides

Open out the hem you pressed and pin along long side and bottom short side

Sew together with a 1cm seam (Make sure your drawstring channel is not caught in seam allowance)

Neaten the seam with a zig zag and cut across the seam at the bottom corners of the bag

Refold the hem at the top of the bag

Sew hem in place close to the folded edge

Turn out and press

Using the safety pin, thread ribbon through the channel, remove safety pin and thread both ribbon ends through a toggle, knot ribbon ends together so that the toggle is positioned just slightly to side of bag.

Eye Mask

Pattern pieces:

Eye Mask

Eye Mask Cover For Elastic

Use 2 Cotton Fabrics and Towelling Fabric

Cutting out:

  • Cut out one Eye mask in fabric and one in towelling - cut out each pattern piece from a single layer of fabric
  • Cut out cover for elastic in 2nd fabric - Pin elastic cover pattern to second fabric placing end with arrows to fold of fabric so that when cut out you have one piece twice the length of the pattern piece
  • Cut a piece of 20mm elastic 37cm long

Sewing Instructions:

Right sides facing fold cover for elastic in half along the long length

Pin and sew 1cm seam along length

Turn right side out – to do this pin the large safety pin through a single thickness at one end of tube with the pin facing up, turn pin and thread back through tube, gradually push through the fabric tube, push fabric along as you go until safety pin emerges at other end of the tube and it is turned right side out

Remove pin and press flat with the seam at one edge

Attach safety pin to end of elastic and start to thread through fabric tube, when one end is level with end of fabric sew across end to hold elastic in place

Continue to thread elastic through until elastic emerges at other end of fabric tube, sew in place as before

Take fabric eye mask piece right side facing up and pin one end of covered elastic at position shown on eye mask pattern piece, pin and then sew across end of elastic to hold in place

Pin other end of covered elastic at same position at opposite side of eye mask

At this point try eye mask and adjust elastic if required

Sew in place as before

Fold the covered elastic into the middle of the eye mask – so that it is away from the edges and won’t get caught when you sew the fabric and towelling eye mask pieces together

Place the towelling eye mask piece right sides together over the fabric eye mask, pin together around the edges sandwiching the elastic in the middle

Sew together around the edges leaving a 6cm gap open along the straight top edge for turning eye mask out

Take care and sew slowly where the elastic is as there are more layers here

Trim seams (except along opening), Turn right side out

Use closed scissors to push out seams carefully and press

Tuck raw edges of opening inwards and close with small stitches

Optional – topstitch around edge of mask

Headband

Pattern pieces:

Headband

Headband cover for elastic

Use 2 cotton fabrics

  • Cut out Headband cover for elastic from a single layer of 2nd fabric
  • Cut a piece of 20mm elastic 15cm long

Sewing Instructions:

Right sides facing fold cover for elastic in half along the long length

Remove pin and press flat with the seam at one edge

Attach safety pin to end of elastic and start to thread through fabric tube, when one end is level with end of fabric sew across end to hold elastic in place

Continue to thread elastic through until elastic emerges at other end of fabric tube, sew in place as before

Fold 5mm to wrong side along both long edges of headband piece, press

Fold over again by another 5mm and press

Sew in place along each side close to folded edge

Fold in half along the length, right sides together

Mark 3cm in from one short edge with a pin at right angles to the folded edge

Sew a line of stitching from the short end to the pin parallel to the folded edge and 2.5 mm away from it

Lay headband right sides down

Press pleat flat so that there is an even amount of fabric either side of stitched line

Repeat at other end of headband

With the right side of headband facing you, place one end of covered elastic over the pleat made in the headband. The ends should be level, with about 3cm of the headband either side of the covered elastic. Stitch through all thicknesses.

Bring the edges of the headband over the covered elastic so that they meet in the middle of the elastic. Pin and sew 1cm from the end.

Trim the corners and turn right side out.

Repeat at the other end of the headband and covered elastic.
